A Small, but Necessary Drop in the Ocean

“It’s true that I was hung over for the first time, and still naive enough not to understand what a hangover was.  But these people, making their way through the morning, all their meetings and errands and obligations.  And this was only here, in the station at this moment.  The world was so big!  The sharpness of that knowledge went away almost as soon as I’d boarded the T, but it has returned over the years, and even now sometimes – I am older, and my life is very different – I can feel again how amazed I was that morning.” – Curtis Sittenfeld, from Prep: a novel So I had…

Beauty, the Burn-out, and Beatle Bob

So I saw a couple of SWEET shows this weekend.  My buddy Justin was back in town and we went and saw Hank Williams III and his buds on Thursday night and then on Saturday night we saw the Heartless Bastards.  Both were excellent shows!  I’d highly recommend seeing either of those if they come to a town near you!  Hank may have had the better show because it was more of a show than the Heartless Bastards, but I think I like HB better as a band. That being said, they both rocked!  And then there was the stalkers, yes, stalkers, plural.  Well, not really stalkers, but people that I…

    A New Project

So I think it’s time to make a new compilation album, or mix-tape, if you will.  I am endlessly listening to songs and lyrics worthy enough to make my own personal best-of music album (since I am not talented enough to make the music myself).  The problem is that this is a GIANT undertaking for me.  I’ve made many, many of these “albums”, but nobody ever knows about them because I very seldomly ever mention it to anyone.  In fact, only one of these albums has ever gone to “press”.  Ruminations Under a Dreaming Tree has been the only one and only 8 original copies were made (you can see the…

    Judge Not, Lest Ye…

So I just finished reading this great book.  A paragraph on the second-to-last page really caught my eye.  As follows: “It would always be a put-on, high school or not, for the whole rest of the world, for the rest of our lives.  You couldn’t ever guess who someone was by the way they looked because, good or bad, the way they looked was always just a costume or an act.  It was Halloween every day, for most people anyway, just to feel like they weren’t alone, to belong, just to keep being happy maybe.  Maybe everyone else might go on thinking that people were just what you saw –…

Child of the 80s or 90s?

So because of my addiction to myspace…I was browsing through all the people on here who claim to have graduated from Fox.  I came across this girl that just graduated this past year.  When I went to her site she had this blog on there about how she was a child of the 90’s.  I claim shenanigans!!! I think there should be some official rules to what decade you can claim.  I was born in 1979.  Common logic would suggest that I could claim to be a child of the 80’s.  I think this is hogwash, I’m a child of the 90’s!  Why do I make this claim?  Think about…
